FORENSICS
Forensic science is the scientific method of gathering and examining information about the past which is then used in a court of law. With HORIBA Scientific’s non-destructive and fast analysis methods, both on-site and in the lab, tests can be carried out to investigate and establish facts in criminal and civil courts of law.
The following analytical and instrumental techniques are used in Forensics, please click on the squares for further information.

Main application
The CSS laser wavelength is designed as a starting point and will cause fluorescence in nearly all types of evidence that can exhibit fluorescence; be it dye stains like, Ardrox, Basic Yellow and Rhodamine, or body fluids, trace evidence, bones or even fluorescent powders. The CrimeScope® LASER is the only forensic laser with a wavelength designed to search for evidence.
Main application
- Powerful Skeleton Extraction
- Fast and User-Friendly Tenprint Entry
- There are 8 types of searches available in PrintQuest® AFIS-APIS, 4 for fingerprints and 4 for palms
Main application
- Gunshot residue
- Banknote identification
- Fingerprint imaging
Optical image of a magazine page, transmitted X-Ray image (TX) and iodine (I) and silver (Ag) XRF images of a fingerprint. The analysis was made in the area highlighted in the optical image
Main application
- Spectral fingerprint of fibers, paint and inks,
- drugs, gunshot residue, etc.
- Traces and particle analysis
- Fast chemical imaging
- Remote analysis through glass/plastic bags
Spectral image analysis
Main application
- Paint/pigment analysis
- Explosives analysis
- Banknote authentication and identification
Fluorescence lifetime image overlaid on a camera image of a patterned area of a banknote
